Art Container Project: Art on the Road

Art on the road is a continuation of the Art Container Project started in Hong Kong at 2008. The exhibition space is a truck.

In the first stage of the Art Container Project, the 37 art containers, after painted by 38 Hong Kong artists, have embarked on their journey to different parts of the world. The art containers, carried by shipping liners, deliver goods to people in their usual function as scheduled. People from different parts of the world can see the art works amongst their daily activity. This stage has enabled the art works from Hong Kong to roam the world in a global scale.

In the second stage of the Art Container Project, one of the exchange exhibitions Art on the Road will show artists’ work on a big truck. The truck will be moving in the streets of Hong Kong and entering to different school playgrounds, bringing art works to the face of Hong Kong people. The truck will be moving from Central to Wanchai, then to different parts of Hong Kong for 3 days. People can walk into the truck and enjoy the artworks.

Speed, route and mobility will be the theme for the works. How these factors affect Hong Kong people? How do these change our culture? How do these change our attitude and character?

This event reflects the busy flow of the city. People and cars are constantly on the move. Everything seldom slows down. This has become us? Art on the Road tries to bring a stop to the pedestrian’s step, invite them to look at art works and hopefully they will feel refresh after that.
